Gwen Lyons

About the harpist

Gwen started harp with her mother at age 8.  When she was eleven, she qualified and competed nationally for the first time, was principal harp for both orchestras at Marrowstone Music Festival and began her professional career by playing parties and weddings.  As a teenager, Gwen won first in
state throughout her high school years, competed nationally, and was principal harp for All State Orchestra, All Northwest Orchestra, Central Washington University Orchestra, Oregon East Symphony, Tacoma Youth Symphony, and Wenatchee Symphony.

In college, Gwen studied voice and added vocal performances to her professional career.  Gwen has sung for a variety of private and public venues such as the Triple Door and the Brian Nova Orchestra.  She is a repeat performer for the National Anthem at Mariner games.

As a professional harpist, she has played with many organizations/venues including, the Pacific Northwest Ballet, the Paramount Theater, the Tacoma Symphony, the Tacoma Ballet, the Bellevue Philharmonic, the Evergreen
Ballet, the Folklife Festival, and the Federal Way Philharmonic.  She has twice been the featured artist at the Northwest Harp Festival and a featured guest on the Laura Lee webcast.  Gwen has a harp studio in Redmond,
Washington, where she teaches harp  and runs two harp ensemble groups (one of those groups being the notorious "
Mother Pluckers").

Her recordings are "Irish Gwen," a collection of Irish folk tunes, and "Watershed,"  a collection of Gwen's original celtic pop songs she recorded with her band, Watershed.  Gwen is ridiculously fond of Levi's 501s, high
heels, cheesy grins, and dark chocolate.  She continues to drive her management nuts with her inability to do self-promotion in a timely manner.
